This control alone increases our security footprint by a huge amount well before the cortex malware controls get involved. As an example, our deployment of Cortex strictly blocks the execution of programs and scripts from any location that a standard user can write to: %UserProfile%, Network shares, and removable media. ![]() (Note that Crowdstrike does overlap on some of these features, but I think Cortex does them all much better). Cortex features application whitelisting/blacklisting capabilities, sandboxing, local firewall and workstation encryption controls, removable media controls, integration with firewall logs and behavior analytics across all of it, etc. That's simple and totally workable, but if you only focus on that you are missing a lot of useful levers that you could be pulling. Yes, you can deploy Cortex as a simple malware tool and just focus on enabling the malware protection policies. However, where Crowdstrike is pretty simple and easy to deploy with limited options and configurability, Cortex XDR is the exact opposite. Again, it is a great product in my opinion. This could be interesting." I feel that is a good thing. I am not at all saying that Cortex would have performed better there, but the penetration tests I have performed with Cortex (and previously Traps) shops the response from the pen testers have basically been "Huh, Haven't encountered that one before. As an example, during the last Pentest we had conducted at this employer the pentester asked what endpoint protection software we utilized and when we said Crowdstrike he replied with "cool, that won't be a problem". But, and this may be a controversial take, I find running a security product that is extremely common in the enterprise to have a bit of a downside as it is expected. Lastly, I will say that Crowdstrike is a very, very popular product - as it should be. (I haven't tried the Palo equivalent, but sight unseen, I'd expect it to be equally useless) Never heard a damn thing from them including during pen tests where we saw suspicious activity all over the Crowdstrike logs. They have improved in this regard over the years, but there were several times where I found myself having to make changes at a global level when really only wanting to target a specific system/binary/user/whatever.įor whatever it is worth, I will say that we paid for the Falcon managed threat hunting component for a year and it was completely pointless. I was also pretty disappointed in the granularity of controls/policies in Crowdstrike. That could be fine, because the features it does have are really excellent and I'd much prefer a product that does a few things really well instead of a product that checks a gazillion feature boxes but does them all half assed (looking at you Sophos). It would be unfair of me to call Crowdstrike a one trick pony, but from a feature standpoint I'd say Crowdstrike is a bit limited. You'd see all of this great data, but there was just no good way to do any sort of alerting on any of it. On one hand hand it gives some really excellent visibility and logging, on the other hand it constantly felt like we were running up against missing features that just felt like it was some sort of licensing compromise between Crowdstrike and Splunk. Crowdstrike's backend dashboard is done in Splunk which is a mixed bag. ![]() To be clear, Crowdstrike wasn't the reason why this wasn't the case (it was pure luck), but Crowdstrike certainly stopped/alerted on plenty of other crap. freaking awful from a security perspective to the point that I was genuinely surprised every single day when I walked into the office and didn't see ransomware messages on all the screens. ![]() Now that you know what protects a betta’s fragile gills, it’s important to know their function too. When a betta is in fight mode (they are fighting fish) and trying to appear bigger and scarier, they will flare their gill covers out and extend their beard in an act of dominance. It also covers the ‘betta beard’ or membrane which is visible in male bettas and used as one characteristic to distinguish between sexes. This unique part of a betta fish acts as a protective barrier or shield for the fish’s fragile gills. He will then carry them to the surface and spit them into the bubble nest where they will be suspended and fertilized. Males also have a unique job during mating where they will suck the female’s eggs into their mouth from the tank’s bottom, keeping them safe and warm in a small area with mere millimeters to spare from his teeth. It’s the reason betta fish tend to look a bit smug-faced and grumpy too. You’ll notice that their mouth is turned upwards to suck air, build bubble nests and consume prey at the water’s surface. Inside their mouth, betta fish have lots of tiny and sharp teeth on their lower jaw to help break down food before ingestion. Their eyesight aids in their curious and combative nature and is why they’ll scurry up to the top when you put your finger near the water’s surface, or chase your finger as you trace it across the tank (no poking or banging).ĭid you know that in comparing the power of a betta fish’s jaws to their size (proportion) that they are stronger than the power of a great white shark? However, after the third inadvertent collision, Mel Gibson’s Kurt takes a moment to reflect, “Guy’s like a snowball magnet.” It’s a line that adds nothing to the scene, except to articulate the physical comedy. It is a familiar gag, and Daddy’s Home 2 sets it to the classic comedy rule of three. Over the course of the scene, the character gets hit in the head by a number of errant snowballs that were either aimed at other characters or carelessly discarded. Towards the climax, there is a recurring gag where a particular character is pelted with snowballs repeatedly and accidentally. One of these sweaters has the best joke in the film. However, Daddy’s Home 2 spends a lot of its runtime explaining jokes that didn’t land the first time around, as if repeating the gag might clue the audience in. In fact, one of the film’s biggest laughs comes from a rehash of a similar gag in Daddy’s Home, something all but tacitly acknowledged by Mark Wahlberg’s Dusty when he discusses the scene in question. Daddy’s Home 2 is never particularly inventive in its humour, often falling back on stock comedy set pieces. However, this burdensome exposition is not confined to plot of character dynamics. The central tension between Will Ferrell’s Brad and John Lithgow’s Don is helpful discussed twice before it is actually acknowledged, which means that the big dramatic confrontation carries no real weight because the other members of the cast have already hashed it out. ![]() Indeed, characters spend entire scenes having conversations designed to set up twists that are due to land in the third act. For a broad improvisational comedy that hinges on the chemistry between its four male leads, Daddy’s Home 2 has a lot of exposition.
